Dorothy Jean Shope

In loving memory of Dorothy Jean Shope, age 84, who passed away on October 11, 2024, after a brief illness. Dorothy was born to Antonio and Elsie Gallegos on February 28, 1940. Dorothy grew up in Henderson, Nevada, and proudly graduated with Honors from Basic High School in 1958. Dorothy worked at various Las Vegas hotels throughout her lifetime as an executive assistant. Her perfect spelling, grammar, speedy dictation, and incredibly fast typing made her a shining star before modern day computer programs were available. Over the years, Dorothy participated in many activities such as country line dancing, jazzercise, water aerobics, walking clubs, Tai Chi, performing in the bells group at her church, and her favorite, planning her high school reunions with her classmates. Dorothy was a devout Catholic and spent her retirement helping her parish, St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, with numerous projects and duties for over 20 years.

Dorothy was cherished by her family and friends. She was a perfect mother, an adoring grandmother, and a wonderful and kind friend to many. Dorothy spent many hours involved with her children and grandchildren’s activities throughout the years. She was always the beaming audience member or proud spectator at all family functions. Her countless words of wisdom, encouragement, and tender words of advice still ring in the ears of all whom she loved.

Dorothy may be gone, but the love she gave us remains bright, a beautiful reminder of her spirit will be in each of our heart’s everlasting.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Billy Shope Jr., parents, and brothers (Raymond, Gilbert, Ralph, and Jerry Gallegos). She is survived by her sister Charlene Radley; son Jerry Cline (Kimberly); daughter Dena Shope Cochran (Brian); grandsons Caleb Cline, Jordan Cochran, and Hayden Cochran; and great granddaughters Zoey and Ella Cline.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, 2300 Sunridge Heights Pkwy, Henderson, NV 89052. A graveside service will occur Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Palm Eastern Cemetery, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123. A reception will occur Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Eastern, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
