Long time Las Vegas resident, Don Kirk, died Wednesday, June 22nd. He was 85. Born in San Mateo, California, Don, from the time he could walk, showed great natural talent as a showman and a singer. While still in his teens, he starred in the Los Angeles radio show, ‘Meet the People’ with June Haver. Upon joining the Navy at 17, he performed at the Hollywood Canteen and in many USO shows around the world. Upon his release from the service, Don attended the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music in New York. He began his Las Vegas career as singer, dancer and talent agent during the initial days of the Flamingo Hotel, and was later promoted to the head choreographer and entertainment director. Don was also a lifetime member of the Screen Actors Guild, a member of the Masonic Order, Shriners, Royal Order of Jesters, Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn, Safari Club International, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and was an enthusiastic member of the Green Valley Baptist Church where he had been recently baptized. Born to Davis H. and Jennie J. Kirk, Don was preceded in death by his parents, son Gregory Kirk, brother Davis S. Kirk, and Don’s loving wife of over 30 years, Diane, with whom he traveled the globe. Don is survived by son Don Solomon; daughter Storee Vincent; Storee’s children Cody and Tayla Quintana; sister-in-law Donna Kirk; and brother-in-law Andy Oldfield (Yoni). Don will be remembered by his family and hundreds of friends as a true free spirit, a born entertainer a wonderful loyal friend, husband, father, grandfather and human being.
