David was born in Hopkins, Minnesota to George Hermann and Kathleen O’Malley on October 28, 1955. He attended Eisenhower High School. Following his graduation in high school, he enlisted in the USAF, a childhood dream. He went to Community College of the Air Force where he received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Digital Equipment Technology. After finishing his Associate Degree, he worked for NSA (National Security Agency) where he honed his skills in electronic communications and cryptography. He attended college at Colorado University in Boulder and was an active alumnus member of Phi Kappa Tau. He was an officer of Psi Chapter and an artist who designed graphics for events such as the Daiquiri Factory and the Viking Party. David finished college in University of Albany, New York with a Bachelor of Science degree. With tours of duty at various US and international locations, his final active duty posting was Nellis Air Force Base. That led to meeting his wife in Las Vegas. He married Myrna Alcantara on June 11, 1993 in Manila, Philippines. He was a devoted husband and a fun uncle to his nephews and nieces. Achieving the rank of Captain, he retired from USAF in 1992. His US Air Force career focused on Command and Control Operations, Test and Evaluation and Secure Communications. David spent a great deal of time in Nevada as part of his Air Force career and had an excellent knowledge of the Nevada training and testing ranges.
He continued on studying Masters of Business Administration at University of Phoenix. His thirst for learning led him to pursue his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from University of Nevada, Las Vegas and became an attorney at law in 2003. David loved airplanes and being in the military. Even after his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for KT Consulting and TTC (Technology and Telecommunications Consultants) and supported many Air Force flying exercises as a “Range Training Officer” until his death.
David was also active in civic organizations. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, a nonprofit group dedicated in making life better for those who served our great nation. He is a lifetime member of NRA and supports ardently the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights. In his spare time, he served as Chairman of the Community Advisory Board for Nevada Test Site Program. He did not use his law degree for money income but instead volunteered in Nevada Legal Services Pro Bono Program wherein he was recognized for outstanding pro bono service in 2020. He also participated in all kinds of clinical studies and research in NIH (National Institute of Health) for medical advancement and science.
As an avid outdoorsman, David enjoyed exploring the landscape of Nevada. He loves to hunt and harvested elk, deer, big horn sheep and antelope. He visited Denali in Alaska as a passenger in a ski equipped plane that landed on the slopes of the highest peak in North America, Mt. McKinley.
He had a unique sense of humor but he was very funny, witty and laid back. In his younger years, he played the lead role as Julius Caesar in a school play. Acting sparked interest in his life once again and he landed a role as a background artist in the movie Casino, Rocky, Vegas Vacation, Con Air and many more. He loves playing the guitar, listening to Blues, Jazz and Classical music. David’s unending interest in many things and his sense of adventure made his life colorful, meaningful and significant… a life well lived.
David is survived by his spouse, Myrna Hermann, his father George Hermann, his brothers, Jim, Mitch, Ted, his sisters Anne and Jane.
