Christopher Harris

Christopher Lee Harris, 43, a life-long resident of Las Vegas, passed away on December 16, 2017, under the care of Pro-Care Hospice after a long battle with cancer. He was born on August 4, 1974, in Las Vegas at Women’s Hospital. His parents were Patty and Randy Harris. He was an only child! His grandparents were Ray (deceased) and Rosella Bohlander. Chris was diagnosed with autism at 2 ½ years old; although Patty believed he was born with it. He had an early intervention at Children’s Behavioral Services where his mom was taught therapies to help him speak and function in life. He attended Variety School from age 3-21 where he worked with many great teachers including Ed and Mila Kitt. He got to swim with the dolphins at the Mirage and was part of their research into the connection with autism and dolphins. After school, he started working at Transition Services at various locations. He did various jobs including computers and art projects. He had a photographic memory that he used to draw pictures of the marquees on the Las Vegas strip from the ‘70s. He was two when he loved to drive on the strip. When you look at the detail of what was on the signs…the stars, the prices, and copyright signs 1976-1977, you would be in awe of what was in his memory. He taught his mother many lessons in life; mostly to never tell him anything I didn’t intend to do, because he wouldn’t forget and have screaming fits until she fulfilled a promise. The best example was when he was 24 and had bad behaviors at Disneyland, so Patty was forced to take him and leave and she told him he would not go back until he was at least 30-years old. Fast forward to New Year’s Eve 2003 into 2004. He did the countdown at midnight “10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…you’re going to Disneyland.” Mom realized he would be 30 in August so of course he got to go back. He thought about that for six years!! Chris loved to travel and gamble at the Hard Rock Hotel. His mom took him everywhere and he got to vacation two or three times a year. Chris was loved by many and was such a funny young man. He had a unique way of saying things that will be missed. Chris is survived by his mother Patty Harris; his grandmother; two uncles; an aunt; and two cousins.

A visitation will be held on January 2, 2017 from 3:00-7:00pm; a funeral service will be held on January 3 at 2:00pm followed by a small reception.
