Bismarck (Bo) Hadarly died on February 2, 2024 at the age of 79. He was survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Ciara, brothers Sieg and Del, and sister Marisa. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. Family and friends knew him as a quiet and private man who avoided calling attention to himself. However, he paid attention and was always interested in how his family was doing—especially his nephews and nieces. He was always open to help whenever he could. Bo was born in Manila, Philippines on April 23, 1944 to Anastacio Hadarly and Teofila Jose. His mother later re-married in the U.S. to Nicolas Campos who really took the role of a father to Bo and his brothers.
Bo’s mother, with him and his brothers, immigrated to the United States in 1960 and have since stayed as residents of Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1961 and entered college to take basic courses but quit after he started working. He was drafted in the Army and was deployed in Vietnam in 1965. He later transferred to South Korea because his brother Del was already deployed in Vietnam, and the law prohibited brothers to be in the same war zone.
When Bo returned, he worked as a bookkeeper and then later worked at the Las Vegas Hilton for more than 20 years as a front desk clerk. His last job before retiring was at the District Attorney’s Office for Child Support.
Bo’s brother Del married Melanie Javate in 1975. After Bo spotted Melanie’s sister Gloria among Melanie’s pictures that she brought from the Philippines, Bo asked if she could introduce him to her sister. Bo and Gloria’s courtship for almost a year across the Pacific Ocean consisted of exchanges of letters, pictures, long distance phone calls, and cassette tapes. He married Gloria Padilla in November 1976 in the Philippines. Four years later, they were blessed with their daughter Ciara.
During Bo’s retirement, he resumed his hobby of painting—something he hadn’t done since before Ciara was born. He liked geometric shapes and was influenced by Pollock’s style. Some canvases consisted of packaging material of small equipment, candy, or candle boxes, and he would envision what to paint on them. One example is the packaging for a frying pan that ended up looking like a banjo. Or the packaging alone might resemble a face and then adding marbles would give it eyes.
Bo loved listening to both classical and 20th Century music. Beethoven was his favorite composer, and his favorite artists were Bob Dylan, John Denver, and Neil Diamond. He loved and idolized Bob Dylan the most for the messages and stories he told in his music. Bo had a collection of all Bob Dylan’s albums in Vinyl, 8-tracks, Cassettes, CDs, or whatever current version they would come. The bonding time with his wife and daughter was watching his favorite game shows like Jeopardy and $100,000 Pyramid.
He liked playing games with the nephews. The house at the time had Billiards, Ping Pong, Pac-Man, Pinball and video games. Nephews loved to hang out at what they called the game house. Marisa called him the cool uncle. With the mature relatives, he liked playing table games like cards and Mahjong for bets of a few cents just for fun and bonding.
Bo’s memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Palm Mortuary at 7600 Eastern Ave. Las Vegas, Nevada 89123. Since there will be no viewing, a gathering will start at 9 AM, followed by the service at 10 AM and reception at Noon at the residence of Jimmy Javate and wife Lupe. Jimmy is a son of Melanie. Jimmy and Lupe’s address will be handed out at the gathering. Please join us to honor and remember the memories, love and kindness of Bo to his family and friends.
