Bertha, known to us as mom, grandma, and Granny B, was born in Gilmore City, Iowa on June 20, 1937 to Herman and Helen (Travis) Crotts.
Not much seemed to intimidate Bertha. At 18, she traveled by ship to Europe with her first child, Roxann, to meet her husband, Herbert.
From there, she and Herb had four more children: Vicky, Sheilah, Randy, and Shannon. Life in the Army took the family to Germany and many states. She loved to travel.
In between new places, the family returned to Iowa where Bertha's parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews lived.
Following an accident, she was widowed with young kids at the age of 40. But she found a way to persevere in the face of tragedy.
Eventually, she moved to Mesa, Arizona and then Las Vegas, Nevada, where she lived with her youngest son, Shannon, for many years.
Granny B had many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored. Nothing brought her more joy than holding and loving her grandkids.
Later in life, Bertha became an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She traveled with her family many times to Pittsburgh and elsewhere to watch them play.
Bertha also loved following politics, playing cards, visiting the ocean, and enjoying a glass of Moscato.
Until the very end, she was down-to-earth, funny, and strong. Her immense love created and sustained our family, and we will carry her in our hearts wherever we go.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters, Bonnie Thilges and Betty Banwart, and her brother, Frank Crotts.
A visitation for Bertha will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Palm South Jones Mortuary, 1600 South Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89146, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.
