She was born March 8, 1949, in Borger, Texas. The first of three daughters of Lester and Betty Lindsey. Her surviving sisters are Pamela Hardin and Shirley Lindsey. Barbara attended elementary and high school in Las Vegas and attained both her Bachelors and Master of Education Degrees from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). She married Jay Roberts in November of 1970, and they spent over 52 years together sharing many wonderful memories.
They had two sons, Jay Roberts Jr. and Kyle Roberts. Jay or Robby, as known to family and friends passed away in 2018 at the age of 46. He retired after 25 years of service with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He was survived by his wife, Tara and five children, Kailee, Brandon, Brooke, Evan, and Morgan. Kyle and Jennifer have two daughters, Averie and Carmen, both attending Faith Lutheran School in Las Vegas. Kyle is a police officer with the Clark County School District Police Department. She was a very loving and active mother and grandparent sharing many experiences with her children and grandchildren.
Barbara was a schoolteacher with the Clark County School district for over twenty years and retired in 2004. The last 15 years of her career, she taught in the elementary school with the Gifted and Academically Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) Program.
While attending UNLV she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority where she was active in many social and scholastic events.
Barbara was an avid traveler enjoying land adventures all across the United States, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia. As well, she sailed on many cruises visiting South American Countries, Korea, Japan, China, Viet Nam, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, Greece, Morocco, Egypt, India and many more. She traveled with her husband, mother, sisters, friends, children and grandchildren.
Services for Barbara will be held on September 11, 2023 at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129. The viewing will be from 9:00am – 10:30am with services following. She will be interred at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City at 1:20pm.
