Antonio (Tony) Dominguez was a man known for his sense of fairness, kindness, and rational thinking. Tony was a quiet man of strength and character. He was an honest man with a strong set of values that always put him in a leadership role – whether at work or within his family. Tony was modest in his actions, literal in his thoughts, and kind in the manner in which he communicated with others. When Tony said something, he meant it. All those who knew him appreciated this trademark quality.
His parents were Jesus and Juanita Dominguez. Tony was born in North Platte, Nebraska. He was raised with eight siblings: Leonard Dominguez, Lupe Madagame, George Dominguez, Virginia Hernandez, Josie Jiminez, Vicki Granados, Marti Rivera, and Raymond Dominguez. Tony enjoyed being a part of a large family and shared the first of life’s adventures with them. Even as a child, Tony understood the importance of being treated fairly, and in return, he treated everyone around him the same way. He was an active child and loved being outdoors playing basketball, baseball, swimming, fishing, camping and all his Boy Scout activities.
Tony graduated from Santa Ana High school in Santa Ana, California in 1960. He was a valued player for the Santa Ana High School basketball team. He attended Santa Ana Community College and earned an AA degree while working 2 jobs. Tony developed qualities of focus and determination that successfully served him his whole life.
Tony proudly served in the U.S. Army. He understood his duty to serve his country and the importance of getting a job done. He was comfortable with the routines of the military and even liked them to some degree, especially when it came to grasping the clear instructions and guidelines he was expected to follow. He was in Vietnam for one year, Germany for one year, and then State-side for two years. He achieved the rank of Sergeant 1st class.
On June 4th, 1977, Tony exchanged wedding vows with Diane Scott at the Golden Circle Wedding Chapel of Santa Ana, California. He was a great listener, loved to go dancing and enjoyed the time shared with his wife and children. Diane felt that she was the luckiest woman on earth because she felt loved and cherished every day of their 50 years together.
Tony was a hard-working and devoted family man. He was blessed with three children, Vincent Dominguez, Debra Goodwin, and Christopher Scott. He took great pride in his children and loved spending time with them. Tony was also blessed with 2 grandchildren, Ashley Goodwin and Matthew Scott. Being their grandfather gave him so much joy and energy and filled his heart completely.
In his work life, Tony was the kind of person who had no difficulty in taking on a project and seeing it through to its completion. Tony retired after 35 years of service with the County of Orange in California. His primary occupation was in county vehicle maintenance, supervisor and procurement manager.
As his retirement approached, Tony viewed the event as something he looked forward to and planned for. So, when the day finally arrived in 2005, he was well prepared. His new life involved relocating to Las Vegas. In retirement, Tony found enjoyment in traveling, video editing, working outdoors, seeing local shows and spending more time with his family and friends. He also continued his interest in learning more about trains, space travel, sports, current events and history.
Tony loved to travel and appreciated the occasions when he was able to get away on vacation. He enjoyed learning about different locales and was open to exploring new and different places. His favorite vacations were a 10-day trip to Europe and an Alaskan cruise. One of his goals was to tour all 50 states and he achieved going to over 75% of them.
