Anthony Gabriel lived a life for his family, his Catholic faith and made a lasting impact on all who knew him. Anthony was born to Frank and Josephine Gabriel on January 14, 1927. He was first generation Italian American and the youngest of six children, three brothers Sam, Pete, and Albert and two sisters Rose and Carmella.
He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania before moving to California with his family. They settled in East Los Angeles and Tony attended Lincoln High School. He loved baseball and played with his brothers. He grew up rooting for the Yankees and his all-time favorite, Joe DiMaggio.
When he was old enough to enlist, he graduated high school early and followed his brothers’ bravery by joining the army during World War II, much to the dismay of his mother. While in the Army, he received commendations for rifle marksmanship and artillery and served overseas in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
After the war, he applied for a position at Warner-Lambert Pharmaceuticals. He started in the warehouse putting in hard work and rising to the position of Transportation Manager. He retired in 1989 after nearly four decades of service.
A confirmed bachelor, Tony met the love of his life, Edda through family friends and after a brief courtship they became engaged. They were married at St. Peter’s Italian Catholic Church in 1967 and celebrated over 53 years of marriage.
He became a father after the birth of Vittoria and again with Valerie. His daughters were his proudest achievement as Anthony took care of his family his entire life, watching over his daughters and later his grandchildren. He moved to Las Vegas with his wife in 2012 to be closer to his grandchildren.
Tony was a fun loving guy who was an avid horse racing fan. When he wasn’t wandering around the paddocks at Santa Anita Race Track he could be found belting out the tunes like Ol’ Blue Eyes himself.
He slipped away from this earth on January 29, 2021 with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edda, daughters Vicki (Alan) and Valerie, grandchildren Rick, Sean, Jake, Nicole, and Quinn.
His final resting place will be at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV.
