Albert Henry O’ Neal Sr. was born September 14, 1940, to the late Ethel Mae O’ Neal and Kleiman Foster O’Neal of Springfield Missouri. Albert graduated from Parkview High School in 1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Myrtle Huddleston. Of that union three children were born.
After graduating high school, Albert enlisted in the US Air Force in 1959. He attended engineering school and became fire chief while stationed at Clovis, New Mexico. He was deployed to Karachi, Pakistan as fire chief. He left the Air Force in 1963.
In October of 1970 Albert relocated his family to Las Vegas, NV. He was hired as the first black professional Scout in Las Vegas. Albert established the first black Boy Scout Troop in the West Las Vegas area. Then he left the Boy Scouts to work for Southwest Gas as Consumer Affairs Manager. While at Southwest Gas he organized many people programs, such as the employee choir, bowling team, and employee talent shows etc. He also initiated many community programs, such as Christmas in April, and decorating for Christmas for the opportunity Village. He participated in the high school Outreach programs.
Albert served as past President of the Black Chamber of Congress, he was a member of Rotary Club, and he served as President and Vice President of the Original Las Vegas Rolling Wheels RV Club. He served as the President of The Sahara Palms RV Club, and he was a current member of the 100 Black Men.
Left to mourn his passing is wife Myrtle O’ Neal of 63 wonderful years, daughter Brenda, and son Gregory. Sister Gwendolyn Booker, granddaughters Kristine (Vince), Eboni (Wayne), Brandi, and Me ‘Oko, and a host of great grands, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Albert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved the outdoors, music, RVing, and sport.
He was preceded in death by his son Albert Henry O’Neal Jr, mother Ethel O’Neal, and father Kleiman O’Neal, Brother Virgil O’Neal, and Nephew Vigil O’Neal Jr.
