Aidan Lucas Eig was born in Dallas, TX on January 21, 2008. Born 1 pound 10.5 ounces at birth, he was often called “Sweet Boy”, “Smiles for Miles” and “Mister Handsome” for his adorable personality and physical attributes. Premature by 4 months and followed by a three and a half month stay in the Neonatal ICU at the start of birth, Aidan defied the odds. With the help of his parents Kelly (mother) and Jon (father), Aidan made the impossible possible. His growth and development were not without challenges, but his courage, inner-strength and resilience could be seen in the years he spent participating in physical and speech therapies. He grew into a very smart and curious young man with a can-do attitude. Aidan was nonverbal and typically the quietest individual in a room. Nevertheless, he stood out with his infectious smile, goofy ways, mischievous laugh and his kind, gentle soul. He had an uncanny way of commanding each and everyone to obtain what he needed to get through his day. Everyone, without hesitation assisted Aidan with his charm and charisma. He touched the hearts and lives of his family, his friends, fellow students, teachers and everyone with whom he met. To understand Aidan’s brilliance, with all his obstacles was to love him undeniably.
Aidan loved school, his teachers and his school buddies. He attended various early intervention Pre-K and elementary schools that groomed him for activities of daily living. Lakeview Middle School is where Aidan found his joy in school. He loved his teachers: Ms. Graham, Mrs. Ward, Ms. Hermes, Mr. Gilmartin, Ms. Meyers as well as others. They helped guide him in his academic life skills journey. Aidan showed promise and gains in certain skills. His receptive and expressive language improved after two visits to Panama, where he received stem cell treatments. His achievements were indicative of so much hope and excitement for him and all familiar with his struggles.
Aidan enjoyed riding his bicycle, playing with his iPads, playing in the pool and exploring his environment. On any given day you would see Aidan running 2 iPads simultaneously. One was for various photos he creatively took and the other was to surf YouTube for items like ceiling fans and cars. About 3 years ago Aidan found a love for water. Hours would pass and he didn’t want to exit the pool, especially when all his step brothers were in the pool playing with him. He loved Mickey Mouse, Peppa Pig, Spider-Man and traveling to his happy place, Turks and Caicos. Aidan’s way of showing how much he loved Turks was to wear his favorite hat that had an embossing of the name of the island. He held on to that hat like a vice grip. Aidan also loved spending time with his favorite people, especially with his mom. Their connection and communication were very special to watch.
Aidan died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Profound sadness and devastation was felt by so many that knew this unique young man. Aidan leaves behind his Mother, Kelly McNulty Bentley, his Father, Jonathan Eig, his Stepfather, Clive Bentley, his maternal Grandmother, Judy McNulty, his paternal Grandmother Judi Postorino, his Cousin, Jacob McNulty, his Uncle, Brian Eig (Janet Eig), his Stepbrothers, Philip Bentley, Justin Bentley, Marcus Bentley and his caregiver Zonda Townsend. Aidan also leaves behind countless family and friends, whose lives he has touched in a very short period of time.
He is preceded in death by his maternal Grandfather, James Patrick McNulty Jr, his paternal Grandfather, Edward “Woody” Eig paternal Step Grandfather, John Postorino and his Uncle, James Patrick McNulty III.
Aidan was a true blessing in so many ways. He influenced many to reflect on the basics of what life encompasses. There was nothing material about Aidan. Aidan was Aidan to the core. He inspired many to be thankful and happy based on how jubilant he was. If you were sad on any given day, it was easy to look at Aidan and smile with joy. He didn’t let his physical and developmental disability hamper his joy in life. He ‘rolled with the punches.’ People that knew him often wished they could be in Aidan’s mind for one day. It was clear that he was having fun on a daily basis. We are thankful for the impact his life bestowed upon everyone. He will be forever loved and missed.
