Tyge Edward Nelson

Tyge Edward Nelson was born July 24, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan to Melvin Paul and Mildred S. Nelson. He was a graduate of Lansing Sexton High School, class of 1976. For many years, Tyge could be seen traveling the mid-Michigan area in his Little Debbie truck, delivering snacks to local grocers, schools and other institutions, and was known by the neighborhood children as the “Little Debbie Guy”. Many tasty snacks were enjoyed in the back of his truck by his children and their friends. Tyge then continued his career working for Schafer Bread/Aunt Millie’s bakery as a Route Supervisor for several year before finishing out his career working for Carvana.

Tyge loved to wrench on cars, especially small British sports cars. There was always a project in the garage, whether it was a Triumph, Austin-Healey or MG, along with an occasional Corvette or Datsun. He enjoyed going to car shows with his family, showing off his most recent project. He was a member of the British Motoring Club for many years. Another of his favorite things was to spend time with his family, camping and deer hunting in Northern Michigan, or heading to the beach to work on his tan. Anyone who knew Tyge knew he was a life-long Trekkie and could quote entire episodes of the original Star Trek.

Tyge is survived by his children Samantha (Ron Blanchard and his children, Donivan, Navin, and Ivy), Tyge, Jr. (Jessica) and Ian (Emma Goetcheus), his grandchildren Caiden, Natalie, and Wade, sister Karen(Peter) Asai, brother Jack Nelson and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his significant other, Megan Trezise and her children Haley and Scott. He was preceded in death by parents, Melvin Paul Nelson (1998) and Mildred S. (Buckley) Nelson (2018), his brother John Eric (Rick) Nelson (1993), and his nephew Brian Scott Hardy (1996).

A celebration of Tyge’s life will be held on Sunday, September 10th , from 12-3 pm at The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hall, 12250 Old U.S. 27, DeWitt, MI 48820. Please bring any stories, pictures or memories that you would like to share.
