Shane took me to my first Pink Floyd concert.  We had no idea our seats were going to be so amazing. As we were holding up our tickets walking down the aisles, the ushers kept sending us forward, our own version of Waynes World. We had an absolute blast. The concert was the best ever. By the time we left, we were friends with all around us, as was natural for Shane. I have nothing but good memories of Shane. I am so very sad to here of his passing.  My condolence to all his family and friends.

Thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

As a Hillsdale student who ate almost every meal on campus in the dining hall, I interacted with Mr. Powers on many occasions. He regularly made his way around to students' tables and asked how they enjoyed the food. That was expected. That was his job. However, he also asked us about our day, our classes, our hobbies, our plans for the weekend. That was not expected, because not many people in this world go beyond the level of personal interaction required by their job description. Mr. Powers was one of the rare people who did. To him, we were more than just students in the dining hall, the means to a paycheck. We were fellow human beings, and for Mr. Powers' caring nature, the student community at Hillsdale College was made all the richer.

I only had the sincere privilege of knowing Shane Powers for two years’ time, but I am grateful the sweet memories from our brief friendship with endure much longer. As a student at Hillsdale College, I had the pleasure of interacting with him on campus and primarily in the cafeteria, although I am certain his kindness and love for others extends beyond his work environment. 

I would like to share a memory of his thoughtfulness and charity during a particular time of need in my life. When I had surgery and needed crutches for numerous weeks, I struggled to carry my own food and drink to a cafeteria table. The first day I crutched in, Shane immediately came over and insisted on aiding me. For those couple weeks, he greeted me at the door for every lunch and dinner, armed with a cups and an empty plate, and ready to wait in line with me for food while sharing conversation and a joke or two. His steady presence comforted me and offered great emotional support. I am sure this kindness comes to no surprise to those who knew him, and the surrounding memories attest to that fact. 

I am grateful for a number of things in my life, and knowing Shane Powers is of those things I hold dear. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and anyone else who got to experience life with this good man. Rest easy, friend. I’m praying for you and those who have been impacted by your life.

Shane was such a kind and light hearted gentleman.  I will never forget our Tuesday night dinner in the cafeteria where a group of my teaching assistance and myself would get him to laugh at us.  Either taking tins of tea and hiding them or just having fun talking to him.  You will never be forgotten big guy.  I am sure there is a tin of tea waiting for you in heaven.. 

I worked with Shane and his love for the students really showed. He cared so deeply for them and always wanted them to have the best experience eating their meals. His actions towards making the dining hall a better experience showed his love and care. He will always be remembered and loved, I'll never forget him and his kind heart.

I had the pleasure of interacting with Shane during his time at Hillsdale and I felt like I had to leave a memory because he undoubtedly went above and beyond the requirements of his job. He was always incredibly kind and sweet to the students who passed through his dining hall. He constantly had a joke to tell or a day to brighten. I hope and pray that the family is doing okay; we certainly will miss him here at Hillsdale. Many prayers and a lot of love for the Powers family.

Shane was a great blessing and encouragement to us students. I remember him biking around campus with a hot chocolate cart during harsh winter nights to lift our spirits. Many times he asked me how I was doing and gave me the eye until I answered honestly and left smiling. Everything Shane did was clearly motivated by his love and concern for others. He will be deeply missed. We are praying for his family.

Please accept our deepest sympathy and condolences in the loss of Shane,  In his role as a member of the Eaton County Parks Commission, he brought to our attention the perspective of a Dad, husband and community advocate for health and wellness services to meet the needs all of our citizens with the public.
He represented Eaton Rapids, Eaton County and our Agency with dignity, class, good humor and dedication.  His energy was contagious, and second only for his love for his family.  We enjoyed the not so subtle bantoring over Blue and Green colors, usually declaring admission that the healthy rivalry refected on the quality of both programs.  I will miss him, too.

Shane was a great person.  He loved his family so much.  Especially his kids.
   He loved his work and always doing something for the students, didn't matter if it was raining,  snowing  or hot as hell outside, he was always there for them. You will be missed.

Shane was always such a joy, and so helpful! My sophomore year, I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy, and he walked me through the entire process of switching my diet. I always felt like he genuinely cared about my wellbeing, especially when he would give me a pointed stare whenever he'd catch me sneaking a bagel, or some other thing I wasn't supposed to eat. He was a beloved personality on Hillsdale's campus, and will be missed by all of us. Many prayers and condolences to his family. 

I still remember those times at Albion when Shane came to Baldwin dressed in that ridiculous squirrel costume. It always made me laugh. I always felt like Shane genuinely cared about his work, it wasn’t just a job for him. I always associate Baldwin with Shane, even after he left Albion. Prayers for you and your family, I can’t wait to see you again!

Shane was always so kind and always took such good care of us students. I remember one time he brought hot chocolate to my dorm in the dead of winter, and it was just what I needed that day! It was such a pleasant surprise, and it really showed how Shane went above and beyond to make us all feel at home on campus.

Shane always had a smile for everyone. When I had a bad day, he struck up a conversation with me in the dining hall -- he always went out of his way to help others. I could tell by the way he greeted other students that he knew the student body through and through. I regret that his time at Hillsdale and mine only overlapped for one year. I am praying for peace for him and his family.

Shane had such a fun, caring and loving personality! Overall if you were having a bad day he would make you smile! Matthew has many great memories  with Shane and Storm playing board games, running around outside and playing tag at night and soccer with the boys! He was like one of the kids too! Matthew said Shane was GOAT! One of the greatest of all times and will be missed dearly!  Thankful that he crossed in our paths and until we see you again! Rest In Peace! 

Mr. Powers was a kind man and a blessing to the campus community.  Though our chats over the Saga counter were brief, often just a quick exchange of pleasantries before joining the omelette line on Sunday morning, they had an outsized impact on me and many other students.  The value of a cheery smile, a little joke, or a “How are finals going?” should never be underestimated.  With little gestures like these, Shane calmed the chaos of many a hectic school week.  The campus won’t be quite the same without him.  

I was a freshman in McIntyre dorm last year, and one night there was a movie playing in olds, and Mr. Powers stood in the freezing cold parking lot handing out free cups of hot cocoa and even went back to the dining hall to get more whipped cream for the last few girls. I never saw him without a wide smile; it’s a small impression of his obvious kindness but even with that one gesture he made Hillsdale a welcoming place. 

 I didn’t know Shane well, but I was struck so many times by how we went out of his way to make students feel more at home and cared for—with a smile or joke or by coming around and asking how the food tastes. He inspired me to do my own work better. Praying for peace and comfort for the Powers family. 

Shane was the nicest and friendliest guy! He always had a smile on his face. He always worked hard, pitching in wherever he was needed, and made sure we were well served. He will be *greatly* missed by the Hillsdale community. 

I will miss this good, kind, loving man. He always made the days brighter even in the dead of winter — just with his constant loving attitude. His warm face always made the students feel more at home at Hillsdale. He will be missed. All my love to his family. 

Mr. Powers was a joy to know. Constantly joyful. Always smiling. That sort of consistent energy is rare in the workforce, and it impacted me greatly—as I am sure it did many other students. We will not soon forget his zest for life. 

May God grant his family with a deep sense of peace at this difficult time. 

You made everyones day better. That is for sure. All the stresses of college and struggles and yet when we walked into Baldwin we were guaranteed to smile. You are so missed. Your love for us students and compassion to spoil us, cause let's face it, you spoiled us, will never be matched. Sending lots of love to your wife and loved ones Shane. Your warmth and spirit were part of what makes Albion College the best.  

Shane was one of my favorite parts about going to the dining hall. I could always count on him to make my day brighter. He never failed to greet me with a warm smile and always asked me about my day. He always went above and beyond for the students. He personally made me a whole bowl of whipped cream when I teased him about the dining hall not having any for my hot chocolate. He was always going out of his way like that to make people’s days better. I cannot express how much I and my fellow students will miss him.

Shane will be very much missed. He was a staple in our lives, and did so much to make me feel loved and cared for. From jokes, trivia nights, to bringing hot chocolate to our dorms during finals, Shane was and will remain a treasure. My prayers and condolences go out to the Powers family.

I worked with Shane at Albion collage . He loved the kids so much ! And they loved him . He was always asking me how I was doing in collage and if I needed any help . I don’t think he knew how much that meant to Me even after he went to Hillsdale; when he stopped by he would still ask !

I only knew Shane for a short time, as I worked with him at the Hillsdale college.  My prayers are with the family.  I know he has found peace . He will be missed.
