Nathan H. (Pete) Baker, age 83, passed away September 7, 2010 in Lansing, Michigan. He was born on July 31, 1927 in VanLeer, Tennessee, the son of Nat Hill Baker and Jessie Angeline Deason. He moved to the Lansing area with his parents at an early age.
Nathan was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Patrick Farrell and by his wife of 42 years, Wilma Winona Baker. He is survived by two sons, Richard Wayne (Debra) Farrell of Charlotte, Michigan and Dennis Lee (Colleen) Farrell of Columbia, Tennessee; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Nathan attended Carl School in East Lansing and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Lindell Drop Forge (where he acquired his nickname Pete) after 30 years of employment as a heater. A resident of Holt, Michigan for 53 years, he was a member of the Holt American Legion (Post 238). He spent his winters in Ruskin, Florida for over 30 years, where he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Aerie # 4351). He will be remembered by neighbors, friends and family as a very kind and generous man.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2:00 PM at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
