Mildred was a mother figure to many, always cooking large meals and caring for the neighborhood and beyond. She was known to be the loudest in the stands when cheering on football. Mildred loved crafting and sewing as well as playing Bingo to win prizes for her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Stubby who passed as a child; her husband, of nearly 45 years Stanley B. Thornton; granddaughter, Heather Wiles and her grandson Troy Childs. Surviving are daughters; Connie Bowlin, Elizabeth Childs; sons, Thomas (Nancy) Thornton, and Ron (Karen) Thornton. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mildred will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes 900 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing MI.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mildred to Chippewa Lake Community Church, 10490 Lake St, Chippewa Lake, MI 49320.
