Maria Elena Guevara de Gonzalez

Maria Elena Guevara de Gonzalez, age 93, of Lansing, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Maria was born in Durango, Mexico, before moving to Torreon, Mexico. On her own with little money, no ability to translate and three small children, she immigrated to Chicago, Illinois. Maria and her husband James, ultimately raised their children and grandchildren in Lansing, Michigan. Maria was a wonderful cook and was how she showed love. She loved bowling, making care packages for family and friends, travel and animals. Maria had a huge heart for children and worked for the Lansing School District for 18 years as a teacher's aide. Her caring, giving and loving heart will be missed most by her beloved husband of 69 years, James; her children, Jamie (Vickie), Gloria (David) Gonzalez-Kruger, Irene (Mark) Puckett, Raul Gonzalez, Ruben Gonzalez, Laura (Eric) Kurz, Rene (Kaye) Gonzalez and David Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Christopher (Mary) Maurer, Vincent Montalvo, Jessica Montalvo, Erin (Clay) Mobbs, Caitlin Gonzalez, Lauren Gonzalez, Gabriela Gonzalez, Isiah (Diana Lustig) Kurz, David Kurz, Lindsey (Ashley) Cooley, Olivia Gonzalez, Isabel Gonzalez, Amadio Gonzalez, Malia Gonzalez, Cory (Jake) Jackson, and Kyle Puckett; her great grandchildren, Nathan and Catalina Maurer, Carter and Jett Mobbs, Gabriel Gonzalez Brown and Elena Gonzalez; Daniel and Carter Jackson and Carl Puckett; and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Vickie and her infant son, Felix.

A visitation for Maria will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912 followed by a rosary service beginning at 7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM, preceded by 10:00 AM visitation at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W Willow Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917 with burial to follow at Eastlawn Cemetery in Okemos.

Memorial Contributions in Maria's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
