Jon Robert Stahl passed away from complications of ALS on 2-6-21. He was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and MSU. His passion for teaching led to a 34 year career in education in the Waverly Community Schools. He taught math for 12 years, was assistant principal for 17 years, and served as High School principal for 5 years. This was followed by 4 years teaching math at Lansing Catholic Central high school. Jon was an active member of University United Methodist Church. He was known for his work on the Outreach Committee and for his oatmeal cookies in 5 flavors which he served after church.
Jon’s priority for family was clear throughout his life. He showed by example that people were more important than objects. We are grateful to have lasting memories of family road trips and camping adventures. He had a heart for connecting with others and creating as much joy and laughter as he could.
He believed in looking for solutions instead of problems and taught that a bad attitude is a waste of time.
Jon is survived by Susan, his wife of 31 years; His children Julie (Jeff) Starn of Grand Rapids; Kevin (Israel) Stahl of Dallas, TX; David (Kristin) Stahl of Greer, SC; stepchildren Sarah (Tim) Hesterman Kemp, of Traverse City; and Bryce (Clare) Hesterman, Portland, OR; grandchildren Nick, Emily, Isabelle, Lillian, Alex, Fiona, Clementine, Sebastian, Finn, and Theo.
Jon will be remembered with great fondness all over Lansing, East Lansing and Bay View where he spent many summers. He will be missed by all who knew him.
The family expects to hold a memorial service in the summer.
