He was born in Lansing, Michigan where the east side of town became his lifelong home.
Jim graduated from Eastern High School and furthered his education at Lansing Community College. He was a dedicated employee of the Michigan Department of Transportation for 37 years before retiring.
A passionate lover of blues music, Jim's life was deeply intertwined with the rhythm and soul of the genre. He was one of the founding members of the Capital Area Blues Society in Lansing and developed his lifelong passion for blues while listening to Randy's show on WLAC as a teenager.
Jim was a devoted family man who cherished his loved ones dearly. Known for his generosity, kindness, and unwavering willingness to help others, Jim touched the lives of many. He was a loyal friend whose circle included numerous musicians who shared his love for blues. Jim's charitable spirit extended beyond his immediate circle, as he actively supported various charities throughout his life.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, Harold Flynn; mother, Jenny Metz; and niece, Michelle Bartkowiak. He is survived by his sister, Pat Cutler; brother, Mike Flynn; niece, Chris Cutler; nephew, John Seiler; niece, Jamie Flynn-Donth; nephew, Jimmy Flynn; niece, Jena Flynn-Poirer; nephew, Christopher Flynn; many great-nieces, great-nephews, and several friends.
James “Jim” C. Flynn leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and community spirit. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A funeral service for Jim will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 6:00 PM, with a three-hour visitation prior from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel, 900 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. Family hour will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the Capital Area Blues Society, PO Box 22221, Lansing, MI 48909.
