Daughter of William and Goldie Smith, Helen grew up in Lansing, Michigan. She attended Walter French Junior High and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1942.
It was at a high school basketball game where Helen met the man she would marry, Bud Silvey. A year after Helen graduated, Bud was on leave from the Army and they were married in her parents’ home April 11, 1943.
Helen and Bud were married for 38 years and had three beautiful children. Bud preceded Helen in death in 1981.
Helen did a variety of jobs throughout her life until she found her perfect career. It was working for the Lansing School District, and the Marvin Beekman Center as a secretary until her retirement in 1990, a total of 28 years.
While raising a family and working Helen had a few hobbies that she enjoyed. She loved to sew, knit, read and play cribbage. All year Helen would knit hats, scarfs and mittens. Then around the holiday's she would donate them to the City Rescue Mission. She crocheted afghans and made quilts for each of her family members.
Helen will be dearly missed by her loving family; daughter, Nancy Silvey; son, Bob (Tammy) Silvey; grandchildren, William C. Silvey III, Matthew Silvey, Johnathan (Amber) Silvey, Jennifer (Dan) Lopez; great grandchildren, Jude Silvey, Lucas Lopez, Nora Silvey, Noah Silvey, and Leia Lopez.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son William Silvey.
