He fought a brave fight against cancer, which was not surprising to anyone who knew him. Born in Los Angeles, California, Dave grew up in Lansing with his parents, Leon and Marjorie Snyder and his siblings, LeeAnn and George. After high school he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Soon after his return, he met the love of his life, Holly Johns, and they were married in May, 1969.
During their marriage, they lived in Las Vegas for ten years, where Dave enjoyed playing poker – even competing in the World Series of Poker tournament! Later, they moved to Florida, where he worked as a real estate developer. In retirement, they moved back to Lansing where they enjoyed traveling, socializing with family and friends and watching their grandchildren grow up. Dave especially enjoyed their trips to Italy, trying exotic foods and carrying Holly’s packages. He was slow to anger, quick with a joke, and was admired and respected by many. To know Dave Godbey was to love him - and to say he will be missed is an understatement of mammoth proportions.
Surviving David is his wife, Holly; their daughters, Brandi (Larry) Kirchhoff and Tiffani Godbey; grandchildren, Tianna Godbey, Isaac Godbey, Andre Bonhomme and Madison Godbey; sister, LeeAnn (Lee) Van Houten; brother, George (Linda) Snyder; and a host of other family members and friends too numerous to mention.
