Betty Ann Murphy

Betty Ann Murphy, age 80, of Lansing, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at her residence. Betty was born September 5, 1943 and was raised in Big Rapids, the daughter of Francis and Marie LaPrise. After graduating high school, Betty met Patrick Murphy while he was attending college in Big Rapids. They were married shortly after and moved to Lansing. Together they raised two sons, Michael and Kevin Murphy.

Betty was a loving mother and grandmother, helping to raise her two grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley Murphy, who she enjoyed spoiling. She found relaxation in gardening and keeping a very clean house. She loved watching birds, her favorite being the Cardinal, and enjoyed traveling with family, taking adventures to new places. She was particularly interested in visiting lighthouses. Betty was an excellent cook, and her baked bean dish will be particularly missed during the holidays. In recent years her favorite hobby was spoiling her great-grandchildren, even more than her grandchildren, many times having sleepovers at her house.

Surviving are her son, Michael (Rose) Murphy; two grandchildren, Anthony Murphy and Ashley (Anthony) Myrick; two great-granddaughters, Zoey and Ziva Myrick; her siblings, Marilyn Routley, Pat Miracle, Cheryl Verburg, James LaPrise, and Bev LaPrise.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Murphy; son, Kevin Murphy; brother, Francis "Boo" LaPrise, and infant sisters Shirley and Janetta.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W. Saginaw St., with visitation from 11:00 am until the time of service.
