Larry and Joey had a loving happy marriage for 26 years. Larry was a devoted, caring and thoughtful husband and a successful provider to whom family meant everything. By nature Larry was conservative, easy going and positive.
Larry was committed to his 50 year career in Management and Sales. Some of his positions included District Manager for BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan, Director of Sales and Account Manager.
Larry had a deep dedication to his community. He was proud to serve for 8 years with the Langley Elks. At the time of his passing, he was the 3rd Vice President of the BC Elks Executive Team for 2024 - 2025, and served 2 terms as President of the Langley Elks Lodge. Larry also belonged to numerous other committees over his lifetime.
Larry lived for our family events, playing cards and volunteering. He enjoyed watching horse races and played baseball and racquetball for decades recently playing pickleball. .
Larry thoroughly enjoyed travelling. Trips included Rome, Greece, Mexico, Thailand, and Florida but his favourite was cruising to Alaska and going to Disneyland. In his spare time Larry enjoyed walking his Cairn Terrier, Katie, at his favourite park and watching baseball and football: in his younger years he umpired softball games and coached minor hockey.
Larry was so loved that his stepson, Sean Slater, dedicated his novel Snakes & Ladders in Larry’s name. The dedication read: Larry ‘Big Poppa’ Oakley, who has always been a rock of support for everyone in the family.
Although he has moved on, Larry will be in our Family’s hearts forever. Never forgotten. His love and support built this family into what it is today as all his stepsons, daughter-in-laws, daughters, son and grandchildren will attest. His grandson Luke always says: Best big Poppa in the world!
A private family service will be held in Larry’s honour.
