Vicki L. McFarland

LANCASTER: Vicki Lynn (Hedges) McFarland, 58, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, after a prolonged illness. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio on February 1, 1956 to the late Lois and Wesley Hedges.Vicki was a talented researcher and co-inventor of a high protein vegetarian meat substitute, the Chakay artisan roast, with her business partner and great friend of many years, Charles Beinecke. Her final years and months were dedicated to perfecting this protein substitute, which she hoped will help solve world hunger. She was also a gifted artist, locally known for her beautiful water colors.Vicki is survived by her daughter, Kathryn L. McFarland; sister, Nancy Strosnider; brothers Ron (Peggy McGuire) Hedges, Larry (Sara) Hedges, and Bob (Debbie Wagner) Hedges; and nieces and nephews Kim Strosnider, Steve Strosnider, Shawna Hedges, Amy Henderly McAllister, Ginny Henderly Valentin, Silicia Hedges, Derek Hedges, and Jamie Hedges, as well as great nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jim Strosnider. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at a later date.
