Henry Burdette Marvin

Henry “Hank” B. Marvin was born November 23, 1937 in Los Angeles, California to the late Stephen B. and Eleanor Marvin. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 21, 2023. He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 40 years Trudy, his children Tamera Marvin Mickelson (Park), Henry H. Marvin (Kinsey), and Tanya Marvin, grandchildren Morgan (Blake), Brooke, Stephen, Everly and John Daniel. He also leaves behind his sister Mary Jenkins (Tom), brother Dr. Stephen S. Marvin (Eldora), many beloved nieces and nephews including Adrienne Lewis Reca (John) and Michelle Lewis, cherished Humfreville cousins and many long-time treasured friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents and sister Danielle Marvin Lewis.

He was a dedicated, kind and loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather who put family first. He was the patriarch and foundation of his family and was always there to give advice, offer support, lend a hand, provide a pep talk, or give one of his big bear hugs. He was extremely generous with his love and time and set an example for all to follow.

He grew up in the Antelope Valley, graduated from Antelope Valley High School and then proudly attended the University of Southern California where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business in 1959. He was a three-year letterman on the USC tennis team and very active in his beloved fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi. He was a proud Trojan his entire life. Fight On!

Hank served in the National Guard as a Tank Commander and was awarded the Outstanding Enlisted Man Award and the Outstanding NCO Award.

In 1959, he went to work with his father at the Stephen B. Marvin Insurance Agency, later acquiring the business which he successfully led for more than 60 years. During that time, he served on numerous insurance advisory councils. He loved his employees and valued his business relationships and loyal customers. Hank treated the agency staff and those he served as family. As a life-long insurance agent, he was well respected amongst his peers, insurance company presidents and agents.

He was a community leader, advisor, mentor and volunteer donating countless hours to his beloved causes. He was a member of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Mounted Search and Rescue Posse for more than 20 years. Hank loved the Lord and was strong in his faith, serving on the New Hope Community Church Board. He also was on the board of directors at American Security Bank and Citizens Business Bank and was very proud of his time in the Lancaster Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, he was involved in supporting Antelope Valley Hospital serving on the AV Hospital Board of Directors, Gift Foundation and Finance Committee. Years later, he was honored with the appointment to Chairman Emeritus of the Gift Foundation.

Hank proudly supported his fraternity throughout his lifetime serving as a National Trustee of the Endowment Fund of Phi Kappa Psi and belonged to the Phi Kappa Psi California Delta Hall of Fame and the Order of SC. He spent countless hours mentoring young Phi Kappa Psi men teaching them business acumen and life skills.

He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled to finally see them win the World Series in 2016.

The family would like to recognize and express their deepest gratitude to the many caregivers for their loving care of Hank in the final years of his life. Their love, dedication, compassion, and gentle touch will never be forgotten.

Hank made the world a better place and enriched the lives of everyone he met. His wisdom, jovial nature, charisma, compassion, generosity, and zest for life will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 15th at 11:00 am at The Highlands Church at 39625 20th St. West in Palmdale with a lunch to follow at the Antelope Valley Country Club. A private interment will take place at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills.
