George Ernest Miller

At an early age he became known to his relatives and friends as G. Ernest and lived a full and plentiful life.

Ernest was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System and furthered his education as a graduate of Duff’s Business school, where he majored in Accounting and Management.

He served two years in the U.S. Army, of which nine months was served in Korea.

While in the service, Ernest was introduced to Katherine Madison of New York City. Two years later they were married and to this union were born five children: Karol, Karen, Barbara, George, and Donald.

Ernest accepted Christ in his life at an early age. He was baptized and sang in the youth choir. Later he joined the Homewood A.M.E. Zion Church and served as president of the Gospel Chorus for over twenty years. He was also a member of the Trustee Board and served as Church Treasurer for twenty-four years. Additionally, he was a member of the Arizona Nicholson Missionary Society and sang with the C.H. Foggie Allegheny Conference Mass Choir. Ernest was also proud of the many upgrades and handyman projects he completed at the church, often on his own with little assistance.

Ernest was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as Clerk, Supervisor and Station Manager. After thirty-three years and nine months of dedicated service, he retired and became a volunteer at the Vintage Senior Citizen Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
