Connie Jo Gaines passed away from Covid-19 complications on December 15, 2020. She was born on September 22, 1929 in Davis, Oklahoma, to Van and Vera Scribner. She moved to Central California in the 1950s, and then to Lancaster, California in the early 1970s. Connie went to work for, and eventually retired from the Lancaster School District. She spent the last 5 years living in Vista/Carlsbad California near her daughter Mary. Connie was exceptionally smart and loved to read and learn. She was never afraid to try new crafting or sewing projects. She was a huge fan and supporter of her son Robert and daughter Mary in academic, sports, and career achievements. Mary specifically remembers Connie sitting on the sidelines watching game after softball game while being blown out by icy wind, even though she hated to be cold. In the earlier years while living in Madera, California Connie and husband Bobby enjoyed free time with groups of friends playing bridge, dancing, multi-family bar-b-ques, and fishing. Connie is preceded in death by her father Van D. Scribner, mother Vera (Nixon) Scribner, brother Van D. Scribner, and husband Bobby L. Gaines. She is survived by son Robert N. Gaines and daughter Mary L. Gaines and their spouses, as well as her Grandson Nicholas J. Gaines and other extended Scribner and Gaines family members living in Oklahoma, Kansas and Florida. A celebration of Connie's life will be scheduled for sometime next year. Donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
Graveside service will be held for immediate family.
