Judith M. Owens, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024. Cherished daughter of the late Benjamin Owens and Estella Pickens. Dear sister of Robert Owens and sister Sharon Owens. She was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and a resident of Bricktown, New Jersey for over 30 years. Her hobbies included traveling the world, playing cards with friends, and reading. She devoted much of her time to the field of education serving the children and families of the Asbury Park community. In 1975, she was the first Black person to be elected NJEA president, where she advocated to improve the working conditions for public school employees and learning conditions for children. The most important thing to her was being a member of Harvey Memorial Methodist Church, where she helped spread the Gospel of Jesus. Please keep Judith and her family and friends in your prayers.
