She was born in 1940 in Ain Dara, Lebanon to George and Waddad Yaman. The family moved to the United States in 1952, and she graduated Bloomfield High School in 1959 and went on to work for New Jersey Bell.
In 1959 she met Charles A. Stivali Jr. They fell in love and married on October 22, 1961. Both worked hard and saved up for their home on Donato Drive in Little Falls, New Jersey where they lived for over forty years. It was there they raised their four children: Charles, Cheryl, Kerry, and Lisa.
Primarily a stay-at-home mom raising her children, she also worked part-time. Skilled in math, she eventually worked full-time in the accounting department at Sears, where she later retired. She is known in the family for her cooking and baking. You could not leave her home without taking food and desserts with you. The Stivali household was the place to be. With the massive pool in the backyard and no less than two grills going and patio furniture to seat half of New Jersey, Dorothy and Charlie were the hosts with the most! Their home was where anyone could stop in, have a bite, and a cup of coffee and sit and say hello. You were always welcome.
Dorothy is survived by Cheryl Agodini, Kerry and her husband Joseph Bellars, and Lisa Hubbard. Her four grandchildren, Lauren & Michael Bellars, and Glenn & Julie Hubbard. Her sister, Annabel and her husband Walter Coyman. Her brothers John Yaman, and Peter Yaman and his wife Jan. Her niece Randie (Coyman) Creamer, and nephews David Coyman, and Jason, Trent and Jared Yaman, as well as many grand nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Charlie, their son Charles, her sister-in-law Minnie Yaman, her son-in-law Steve Hubbard, and her niece Tammie Lee Coyman.
Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 4pm to 7pm at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of the Holy Angels, 473 Main Street, Little Falls, NJ 07424.
