Charles O. Brinkman, 77, of Lakewood, passed away with family surrounding him on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. Born in Staten Island, NY, he lived in West Nyack, NY for 40 years prior to moving to Lakewood in 1999. His longtime career in the insurance industry began in 1952, working for Continental Insurance, and Davis Dorland before retiring from Atlantic Mutual Insurance Co. located on L.I. in 2001. Charlie was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Toms River. He was active in several churches throughout his life, he taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, served on church councils and session, and sang in the choir. Charlie was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Thompson) Brinkman; his sons, Steven Brinkman and his wife Janet of Niantic, CT and James Brinkman and his wife Cathy of Little Silver, NJ; two brothers, Ernest and his wife Grace of Howell, NJ and Gordon and his wife Lillian of College Station, TX; and his cherished grandchildren, Dana Mainetti and her husband Jeff, Eric, Kristen, Kenneth and Caitlin.
A Gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. at D'Elia Funeral Home, Route 70 and Vermont Ave., Lakewood, NJ, 08701. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River.
