Marie Links and Catherine Leyden were best friends for years.  They lived next door to each other on Stuyvesant Avenue, Newark, NJ, where Alice and I were born.  Alice and I had been friends for over 70 years.  We attended the same grammar school, went to the library, parks , movies and stores together.  She was like my older sister and I her younger brother.  We spent one summer watching the movie Yankee Doodle Dandy on the Million Dollar Movie Channel over and over and over again until we new all the lines and all the music by heart.  At the end of the summer we performed a live rendition in our backyards for our parents and friends.  Just recently while my wife Janet and I visited Alice and Fred, we reminisced about that summer and broke into a melody of tunes from the show.  Alice was a dear and loving friend that will be missed not only by me but by all who had the opportunity to know her.



Alice and I met for the first time at Duke University in 1998.  Her son and my daughter had fallen in love and had committed their lives to each other.  For nearly twenty-five years, Alice was a dear friend.  We shared many conversations.  Often she told me about stories from her past when she was a child growing up with loving parents and relatives in North Jersey.  We also shared many meals together.  It was a pleasure to see Alice enjoy her favorite desserts and sweet treats.  She was a loving mother and grandmother, and we especially bonded over caring for and watching our grandchild, Jody, grow up.  Alice, you will always be in my heart.  I know you are in Heaven with your parents and Elaine.  Now you will sing with the angels.     

I am very sad to lose such a special friend.  Alice has been my friend for many years.  We met when our kids were young and managed to maintain our friendship even though we lived in different states for quite a while. I was happy when she moved back to New Jersey, so we could see each other more frequently.  She was always a very caring, sweet person.  She never had a negative word or thought about anyone or anything.  She was so strong through all her illness and continued to enjoy shopping trips, especially to Talbots. She always loved pretty things, especially her doll collection.   She also enjoyed meeting for dinner. 
 My husband and I often met Alice and Fred at "The Shrimp Box " in Point Pleasant. I will truly miss her.

I met Alice and Fred for the first time at Duke University, for Steve's graduation lunch.  Since then there have been many lunches, diners, and gatherings.   Alice always had a smile, a friendly word and enjoyed happy conversation.  A favorite lunch location became Ponzio's in Cherry Hill, NJ.  I always thought Fred was the compass for the family but Alice was undoubtedly the anchor.  She will be missed in so many ways.

Alice was a great lady, always smiling, never complaining, always supportive of her husband Fred.  She battled many ailments during the past 10 years without complaint.  She will be missed.

Dear Fred and Family,
Alice and I became sisters not by birth, but by mutual respect for one another. Our friendship was formed over  30 + years ago when we all lived on Emerald Drive. Alice and  I enjoyed countless lunches together throughout the years. One of her favorite lunch spots was Lubys in Colleyville and I can still remember how much she enjoyed the jello.
She had the prettiest blue eyes and most genuine smile.
Alice truly enjoyed dressing fashionably. Her accessories always included earrings.
She and I attended numerous Art Shows together and we often times picked up a small art piece as a memento of our time together.
Whenever my Mom came to visit we would always schedule a lunch date with Alice (if Elaine was in town she joined us too.)
My Mother adored Alice and thought she was one of the loveliest Ladies she had ever met.
After the relocation to New Jersey our friendship remained strong and loving as we continued to nurture one another with phone chats, cards and gifts.
Alice was always a classy Lady, a brilliant friend and an loving sister.
She loved her family SO much.
The world has lost a shining star.
