Sam L. Garza

He loved his aunts, uncles and cousins who were a big part of his childhood.

Through the Aviation Cadet program in Harlingen, TX, he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. His first duty assignment was Sacramento, California at Mather Air Force Base. It was there that he met a true “California Girl” who appreciated a handsome 2nd Lt. in a uniform. Three little boys and eight years later he resigned his commission as a Captain, and we took our GI Bill and headed to BYU Provo. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a master’s degree in public administration. We also had our BYU baby, Allison Audrey, which to have a girl was a special thrill.

Sam enjoyed the business world over many years. He was active in Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America and was on the Salvation Army Board of Directors. Sam was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a three-year mission with Carly in Denver, CO at the LDS Employment office and enjoyed assisting individuals in finding employment. He served as an Ordinance Worker in the Denver, CO Temple for many years which brought great fulfillment.

He is survived by his spouse, Carly and three children, Allison, Mark, Craig and Eric (deceased), who will miss him dearly. He also very much enjoyed being referred to as Papa by his 8 grandchildren. He was about to become a Great Grand-Papa in May as Allison’s oldest and her husband are due with their first child. His grandchildren all have the best memories of their sweet Papa.

We the family are grateful for the marvelous, tender and compassionate care that Sam and the family received throughout his journey with Dementia. Intermountain Health Hospice loved us, provided amazing medical care and equipment to make the process so much less stressful and easier. As a result, Sam passed away peacefully at home, through the kind administration of Intermountain Health Hospice.
