Nicholas Powers Feldman, a cherished husband, devoted family member, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away on August 30, 2024. He was 80. Born in Rochester, NY on December 10, 1943, to Samuel and Katherine Feldman, Nick's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
Following his high school graduation, Nick enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a four-year adventure that took him across the country. He was honorably discharged in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1965, after which he pursued a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at San Jose State University. Though his academic and professional life flourished, it was his time at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado that left a lasting imprint on his heart. The beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the vibrant Colorado landscape captivated him, and it was there that he met the love of his life, Nancy.
In 1976, Nick, ever the romantic, made his move by slipping a note through Nancy's teller window, asking for her phone number. Nancy’s acceptance led to a beautiful love story that spanned over 47 years. They were formally married in September of 2006, celebrating a lifetime of love and commitment.
Nick's love for math was matched only by his passion for nature. He found joy in fishing in the Rockies and birding in Colorado’s splendid outdoors. His heart was also touched by the furry companions he rescued and cherished—his beloved cats, Slick and Tuxedo, and his loyal dog, Lily. Nick also loved birds, he could tell the difference between all kinds of birds, and built a bird sanctuary in his backyard, feed them regularly. He named each one and could tell the difference of each when they came to the sanctuary.
Nick is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his loving sisters, Tracy and Linda; as well as seven nieces and nephews and six great nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, a love for nature, and a deep commitment to his family and animals.
In honor of Nick's life and passions, the family requests that donations be made to the Max Fund Animal Rescue or La Labre Indian School, two charities close to his heart.
Nick will be laid to rest at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, later. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Nick. Your spirit will live on in the mountains you loved, the animals you cared for, and the hearts you touched.
