Kevin John Moore, a beloved husband, father, and son, passed away at the age of 53 on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023. Though his unexpected death comes as a tragedy to his friends and family, he did not suffer as he left this world. Kevin is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Liz” (née Detterick), two sons Quentin and Colin, parents Steve and Anne, sister Suzanne Nuyen, brother Brian, as well as many other family and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Born on August 14, 1969, to Anne and Steve Moore, Kevin grew up in rural Illinois before joining the army at 18. He joined the 12th Special Forces Group (aka. the Green Berets) working with Russian linguists as an intelligence analyst and received his Airborne “Jump Wings” in 1988. While in the military he attended Eastern Illinois University where he obtained a bachelor’s (1994) and subsequently a master’s (1995) degree in economics. After four years of short deployments, army schools and another six years in reserve duty, he moved to Denver, Colorado where he married Stacy Clark. Later divorced, they both raised their two sons Colin and Quentin. He met Liz Detterick Burgess in 2015 and they were married a year later.
He made his career as a wealth manager, winning a slew of Rainmaker Awards during his 22 years at AMG National Trust Bank, and achieving the distinction of being named a "5 Star Best in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager" by Denver's 5280 Magazine. After a battle with cancer in 2018, Kevin achieved his long-time goal of earning his CFP in 2020 and left AMG for Key Private Bank where he became Vice President - Senior Client Experience Manager. In 2022 he moved to a Senior Vice President position as a portfolio manager at First Western Trust.
Kevin was highly personable, able to strike up conversation with anyone at any time, a quality that made him many fast friends and myriad acquaintances. He had a knack for finding commonalities with all he met. Beyond his discernible affability, Kevin had a generous heart and was quick to volunteer his time when needed. He was devoted to family, love, and his faith. Almost anyone who knew him, knew about his two sons, who Kevin frequently and unashamedly lauded with equal parts fatherly pride and love.
Kevin loved to explore Colorado’s burgeoning microbrew scene, balancing avid exploration of new breweries with regular patronage of his local favorites. He was an active participant in civic activities with local groups such as the Good Wood club, the Veterans Whiskey club, and the American Legion. He had lifelong affection for the performing arts, concerts, and festivals. Kevin also loved to golf, ski and fish, escaping city life to the expanses of the Rocky Mountains, Gulf of Mexico, or the Northern Boundary Waters.
Visitation will occur on Thursday, February 9th from 3-7pm at Advantage Funeral Home, 6425 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood. Services will be held at Central Presbyterian Church, 1660 N. Sherman St., Denver on Friday, February 10th at 2pm.
