John is survived by his wife, Corky (Coralea) Lopez, his children Stacy Koczara, Juan Lopez, Karin Lopez-Davis, Theresa Winslow and Melissa Craig. He has 7 grandkids and 3 great grandkids. He is also survived by 7 sisters.
John was born on July 23, 1944 in Raton, New Mexico to Juan and Angelica Lopez. He retired from the Denver Public Schools and also as a Master Sergeant from the Colorado National Guard. Upon retiring he started his second career as volunteer extraordinaire including Eaton Terrace (an assisted living facility) and Set Free Prison Ministry. They joined Red Rocks Baptist Church (South Sheridan Baptist Church) in 1970 and remained active members to present. When he was not helping the seniors in his community he spent as much time as he could on the golf course whether locally or while traveling.
John's personality and character touched many lives. No matter how you met him you probably did not forget him. From the kids that came to him for candy, the soldiers under his command, the community that called on him to help change light bulbs, fixing sprinklers and whatever was needed of him, he was willing to help. We can't forget his special sense of humor epitomizing the "dad Joke" and he had one for every occasion. If you can't exactly remember where you met him it was probably from going to separate schools together.
