Susan Gail Hellmuth, age 71, passed away peacefully at her second home in Austin Texas, on March 13, 2017. Born on September 24, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, she is predeceased by her parents Arnold Oliver and Sue (Pence) Leweke of Middletown, Ohio.
Gail was a dedicated registered nurse who worked many years as a public health nurse for the City of Middletown. After retiring, she maintained her license
by faithfully attending continuing education events, enjoying learning new advances in nursing and spending time with old friends. Gail was also a parish nurse, providing supportive health services through her church.
In 1991, Gail was diagnosed with advanced inflammatory breast cancer. Her initial prognosis was 6 months to 1 year. She endured a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. She was an early patient of the now common breast cancer drugs tamoxifen and raloxifene. She beat cancer and blessed us for 25 more years of precious memories.
Gail is survived by her husband, Daniel Hellmuth of Trenton, Ohio, her daughter Kristina (Tina) M. Recker and her husband John and their three daughters Bryn, Rhys and Dylan of Austin, Texas, step-daughters Leanne (Hellmuth) Hood and her husband Herb and Heather Hellmuth and her children, Isaac, Jack Aidan and Kaiya all of Ohio.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Mt. Olivet Presbyterian Church in Trenton, Ohio. Visitation begins at 10:00 am and the memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. A reception at the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the charity of your choice.
