Mike was born April 24, 1945, in Austin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Byron Thomas and Pauline Dabbs Thomas and brother, Ronald Byron Thomas.
Mike had many passions in life, but being on the lake and on a golf course were by far his favorites. Mike was never without a boat. He was an excellent water skier back in his younger days and was very proud of his home on the lake in Spicewood, Texas. Mike enjoyed playing golf all over the Austin area with fellow firefighters. He certainly enjoyed hunting and fishing, but truth be told he wasn’t very good at either. Mike felt at home on the lake or on a golf course, but never gave up trying for that buck at the family ranch or hoping to bring fish home after fishing with his cousins and friends on the Texas coast.
Mike was a firefighter, a damn good firefighter. He made many lifelong friends in the Austin Fire Department. As a rookie firefighter, he earned the nickname Candy. The true story was never fully explained but those guys admired Mike for the firefighter he became. He retired as a lieutenant after 28 years. Station 7, C Shift meant the world to him. Oh, the stories that could be told.
Mike is survived by his wife Janet and 4 children Chris Thomas (Rebecca), Spicewood, Texas, Kyle Thomas, Denver, Colorado, Scott Thomas, Spicewood, Texas, and Kelly Kozlovsky (Travis), Spicewood, Texas. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Zack, Khloe, and Riley, and 1 great grandson, Asher.
The family will have a celebration of Mike’s life at his home in Spicewood on July 20th at 5 pm.
