Robert (Bob) Pilkington, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on December 10, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to LeRoy Reuben and Gertrude Hunt Pilkington on July 28, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas. The family moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma when he was a freshman in high school. After high school, he attended Oklahoma A&M College (now Oklahoma State University) and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1948. Bob met his future wife, Betty Lou Henry, while both were working for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and they were married on April 29, 1955. Immediately after the wedding, they moved to Bountiful, Utah where Bob worked at the Phillips Woods Cross refinery. The family moved back to Bartlesville in April, 1960 with children Kim and Alin. Kevin was born in Bartlesville. The family moved to Japan in April of 1967 and then to Kuwait in October of that year. In the fall of 1968, the family returned to Bartlesville. Bob was transferred to Phillips' Adams Terminal in Pasadena, Texas in 1970. In 1975, the family returned to the Woods Cross refinery where Bob was the Mechanical Superintendent. In 1978, Bob was transferred to Guayama, Puerto Rico where he was the mechanical superintendent of a chemical plant. Bob retired in 1985 and he and Betty moved to Lakeway, Texas.
After his retirement, Bob and Betty enjoyed golfing, traveling and most of all, becoming grandparents. He was a member of the Capitol City Model A Ford Club and the Lone Star Model A Ford Club. He and Betty had many enjoyable excursions touring with their Model A friends.
He is survived by Betty, his beloved wife of 55 years, his daughter Kim Granzow and her husband Howard of Los Alamos, NM, son Alin of Marina Del Rey, CA, and son Kevin and his wife Lisa of Houston, TX, eight grandchildren -- Rachel Leah Granzow, Brian Neal Granzow, Michael Alin Pilkington, Amy Beth Pilkington and her husband Mark William Leung, Kate Dearing Fowler and husband Stephen, Mathew Kevin Pilkington, Kristin Dearing and Samantha Diane Pilkington. He is also survived by his sister Dr. Lou Ann Pilkington of New York City, niece Trude Jeanne Steele Norman of Muskogee Oklahoma and her husband Mike, great nephew Robert Ellis Conley III and wife Suzy of Austin Texas, their children Ellis Ann and Mason Steele, great niece Guyanne Conley Nichols and husband Nick Nichols of Lakeway Texas, their children Rylee Carson, Nicholas Jackson and Addyson Jeanne and great niece Margaret Steel of Croydon, Victoria, Australia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jeanne Steele Potts of Norman, OK, and niece Sherry Ann Steel of Croydon, Victoria, Australia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in honor of Bob.
There are no words to express how much Bob will be missed by his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Lake Travis Chapel, 411 RR 620 South. A reception will follow in the Magnolia Room.
