Robert Lynn Neighbors

May 4, 1940 – March 23, 2022

Bob was born in Pittsburg, Texas to Harley and Aimee Neighbors. He was a voracious reader and said he read every book in the Pittsburg library. He wanted to learn and be the best he could. While in Pittsburg High School he played football, and pointed out that he played against Dandy Don Meridith. He was the first person in his family to graduate from high school and college. He put himself through the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in Eastern European history. After graduation, he served in the Army in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant.

After serving our country, Bob embarked on a 30 year career at Electronic Data Systems and was one of the early employees. These men and women went on to change the face of EDS and along the way they became longtime friends. After several years involved in health care contracts in the United States, Bob was sent to Tehran, Saudia Arabia and Paris. After years in the international sector, he came back to the US, eventually retiring as president of an EDS division. Comments from former EDS executives are:

• “What a great guy! An All Star on everyone’s team. Quiet, but smart as a whip and eager to dig in to help. He was the ultimate team player and good friend to all.”

After retirement, he and Ann moved to Lakeway. He met a group of guys who became very close friends and had a very special camaraderie. They played golf three times a week and poker once a month. They shared so much in common in their love of life. Bob never cared what golf score he had. The important thing was being outdoors with his friends. Bob served the City of Lakeway by being on the Zoning And Planning Commission. He went on to be elected to Lakeway City Council for two terms and serving as Mayor Pro Tem one year. He served as co-chair with Ann at the Kinko’s golf tournament Volunteer Tent for five years. He loved to explore, and he and Ann spent a great deal of time traveling in the US and abroad. He cherished the adventure. When they had the home in Sante Fe, he used his gardening skills to turn the back yard into an oasis. His love of beer was well known throughout Lakeway and his wonderful friends always had his special drink. As a voracious reader he was also a student of national and world events. His interests were wide and varied, and he cherished each adventure. He was the consummate host always wanting to please his guests. He was a kind, caring gentleman who always wanted to help or give to his friends. Ann was the love of his life. He loved his children and found great joy in their lives. His grandchildren were a gift beyond measure. He was a most dedicated, loving and selfless husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

Bob is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Ann Neighbors. Children: daughter Barbara Daniels, son Lee Neighbors and wife Emily, son Lynn and wife Brittany. Grandchildren: Kelsea Daniels, Henry Neighbors, Eli Neighbors, Myles Neighbors. Sister: Laurel (Sue) and husband Dan Hubbell. Sister-in-law: Mary Cook and husband Scott. Nephews: Danny and wife Nancy Hubbell, David and wife Kristy Hubbell, David Cook and wife Weesie. Nieces: Susannah Cook, Laurie Stevens and husband Darren Stevens.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, April 12 at 2:00pm in The Lakeway Church Chapel, 2203 Lakeway Blvd, Lakeway, TX 78734.
