Mary Anita "Humber" Davis flew to Heaven on Thursday, August 31st at 5:30am as the Super Blue Moon shone down upon us. She was surrounded by family in her final days as she fought a swift and fierce battle against breast cancer at the age of 90. Anita was born in Fayette, Alabama on March 26,1933 to Hallie Belle Hosea and Lewis Elmer Humber. She entered this world with and is survived by her twin sister Sarah Anise "Humber" Dunnigan. Shortly after their birth the family of eight relocated to Tampa, Florida where Anita graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1951. She briefly attended Florida State University studying Art and went on to work for Central Truck Lines as an administrative assistant. She met our father, H. Lamar Davis, on March 17th, 1956, and married him on November 17th, 1956, and together they built a new home in Orlando. They joined the Episcopal religion and raised our family in the church. The last 66 years of married life brought three children, Leslie "Davis" Gillham (Greg), Allison "Davis" Stein (Kevin) and Glenn Davis, and four amazing grandchildren, Hallie Ungerson, Chase, Trevor, and Madison Davis. Anita lived for the grandchildren and thrived on watching each of them blossom and grow and was their biggest fan in any endeavor. Anita and Lamar lived a life full of adventure and love, moving the family home over the years. They lived in Florida, Massachusetts, Texas, Hawaii, and Arizona. Their two favorite homes were in Kailua, Hawaii and Murphy, Texas. Anita made life-long friends wherever she lived and had a career working for Northern Telecom (Nortel) when the children were older. She enjoyed football and loved her Texas Longhorns, attending the games as a season ticket holder for many years. She was known by many for her fried chicken that topped all others. It was always the number one request for family dinners over the years. She had a soft heart for animals and loved many pets in her lifetime. She had a green thumb, could sew beautiful clothing, loved to read, and do crossword puzzles, and was always up for watching a classic old movie. Dad's favorite memory of mom was when they would dance together. He always said she was the best dance partner and the prettiest girl on the dance floor. Mom and dad finally entered assisted living eight months ago. We cannot give enough thanks to the staff at Longleaf Assisted Living in Bee Cave, TX. When the medical system failed our mother at every level, and she began to falter, this facility picked her up and helped our family by providing a safe and loving environment for her to spend precious last days on this earth. Mom endured chronic pain for a good portion of her life and unbelievable pain from the cancer which was discovered last month. She took it in stride, did not complain or feel sorry for herself, ever. Towards the end when asked if she was afraid to die, she replied, "No I am not afraid, I just love living and don't want to leave." In her last days she requested songs by Willie Nelson, specifically "I'll fly away". Per her final request the family will spread some of her ashes in the ocean near Kailua. Please honor our mother by embracing the life God gave you and living it to its fullest.
