Helen B. Hulen

Helen B Hulen, 88, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024. She was born in 1935 in Childress, Texas, and went on to become a lifelong educator and lover of both the musical and the visual arts. Helen attended Trinity University, earning a degree in pipe organ performance and also minoring in music education.

Helen had a passion for teaching elementary music students. This was her chosen vocation. With her avocation, she became what one might call a "hobbyist-colorist." She loved the visual arts equally as much as her music studies and reveled in any creative activity that dealt with the vivid use of color.

Her signature style involved the perfectly balanced hues she wore as clothing and as jewelry. As a young college graduate, Helen used her love of fabrics and color to start her own clothing design business, Elàn, in the Wellesley, Massachusetts area. Later in life, Helen developed a unique form of photograph manipulation with her Mirascapes line. Her photographs were selected for a large commercial building installation in the Austin area and her images adorned many private residences in Texas.

Along with her artistic talents, Helen had an unending love of animals, always having one beloved feline in her home. She donated generously to animal rights groups and to conservation groups alike.

For the major part of her career, Helen taught elementary music in the Eanes Independent School District, where her large-scale, costumed performances were highly regarded. Helen is remembered by countless students and colleagues as a strong educational influence, a teacher who strove for perfection in her life as well as in her work.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Hermann and Norma Bremer, and is survived by many extended family members throughout the state of Texas.
