Born in 1934, to Eustus & Kate Brown Futch in Dade City, FL. Anne grew up in Dade City and was involved in many activities in high school including Student Council, FHA, head majorette, class secretary, Beta Club, Homecoming Queen, Key Club Sweetheart, Queen of Sports, Best Looking, and Best All-Around.
Anne graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University in 1955 with a degree in Education and was a lifelong member of Chi Omega Fraternity.
In 1955, she married Edward McClure of Lacoochee, FL and was married 26 years until he passed away on April 24, 1982. She taught school until she had children and then followed him to multiple universities as he attended graduate school and taught classes. In Tallahassee, Anne was active on the Chi Omega House Board, was an avid tennis player, and was president of the Florida Children's Home Society.
After residing in Tallahassee, Florida from 1965 to 1977, the family relocated to Austin, TX for Edward’s new career at the University of Texas. Once moving to Austin, she continued participating in the Chi Omega House Board, playing tennis, and volunteering at her church, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.
In 1985, she married Charlie Whidden, a close friend formerly of Arcadia, FL. Charlie moved to Austin to pursue her, and they eventually married on May 25, 1985. After living in Austin for a while, they built their home in Spicewood, TX, attended Spicewood Baptist church and continued to enjoy tennis with friends. Some of Momma's favorite things were sitting on her back porch with a glass of wine overlooking Lake Travis, feeding foxes, watching their hummingbirds, and being thankful for the life she and Charlie created together.
Anne is preceded in death by her first husband Edward McClure, her parents, her brother James Futch, sister Katherine Goodroe.
She leaves behind her husband Charlie Whidden, children: Lisa McClure Shaw (Mike) of Cedar Park, TX, Melinda McClure Johnson (Gordon) of Katy, TX, Martha McClure Thomas (John Pat) of Quincy, FL, Mark McClure (April) of Greenville, SC and grandchildren, Michael Edward Shaw deceased (Mandy), Philip Shaw, Brita Johnson Valadez (Chase), Craig Johnson (Laura), Jenna Johnson, Ivie Thomas Hackney (William), Audrey Thomas, Mary Pat Thomas, Ellis Anne McClure, Kate Carson McClure, Meredith Ellen McClure. Charlie’s sons, Jeff Whidden (June) and Jim Whidden along with their children Lindsey Whidden, Ashtyn Whidden (Sam), Christine Standberry, Kasey Westberry(Donnie), Abe Whidden (Ashley): and great-grandchildren, twins Madison and Michael Shaw, Mary McClure Hackney, Vera Kate Hackney, Molly McClure Valadez, Ellie Johnson, Ruth Mott, Aaron Standberry, Charles Abriel Whidden, J. D. Moore, Brandi Pettijohn, Haleigh Pettijohn and Kjerski Whidden.
A visitation for Anne will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734. A graveside service will occur Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 78731.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Chi Omega Gamma Chapter at Florida State University, Children’s Home Society of Florida (Tallahassee, FL), Enhabit Hospice (Marble Falls, TX), or Spicewood Baptist Church (Spicewood, TX).
