A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Ramon Betancourt passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of our Lord on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the age of 92. He was blessed to see and hear his family and friends share their love and prayers for him during his final days in hospice care. He will be remembered as a generous, hard working man who loved to laugh, and serve others. He will remain in the hearts of his children Ramon Jr., Daniel, Loida, Rebecca, Debbie, Timothy, his grandchildren Ramon III, Ilea, Dan Jr, Ray, Daisy, Matthew, Miranda, Elisha, Atlas, and great-grandchildren Ramon Edwin, McKeena, SaMya, A.J. Allen, Anna, Juliet, Ramon, Jasmine, Richie, Melody, Danny Boy, David, Eman, Delena, Daniela, and Daniel.
Ramon was the son of Antonio Betancourt and Ramona Santaella, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He and his beloved sister Maria are predeceased by their brothers Antonio, Fernando and Roberto. Ramon honorably served in the United States Army as a Medical Specialist, earning a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He retired from his primary occupation as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in 1993, yet did not stop working and volunteering countless hours with senior meal programs. Ramon actively served in multiple roles in the church and studied the Bible passionately. He was always seen as a dependable man, working with a smile and rarely if ever complaining about anything.
Over the last few years while in assisted living and memory care, Ramon will be fondly remembered by the staff and residents. Over the past year, his personal home health aide Carolina formed a very special bond with her new “Abuelito” and will always be considered a treasured member of our family. In his last days, the steady flow of music, affirmations and expressions of gratitude and love surrounded him as he slipped into eternal rest.
Our beloved Ramon embodies the following verse from 2 Timothy 4:7-8: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.”
