Charles Edward Farrell

Charles grew up in Sunfield and moved with his family to Lake Odessa as a child. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the military where he served as a military police officer in Germany. Once he returned, he married the love of his life Gretchen (Scheidt). Together they raised their three sons Mark, Charles Jr and Gary while working their farm outside of Lake Odessa. After retiring from farming, he worked for Frost Heating.

In retirement, Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending his sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events. Charles was the all-time handy man and was called upon often by family for help. He never used a manual and had a natural ability to piece together anything. This ability was passed along to his family as he mentored them throughout life. In his later years, Charles loved mowing the lawn and could be seen on his lawnmower daily. Other hobbies included playing cards, tractor pulls, snowmobiling and watching the Detroit Tigers and Pistons.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gretchen (Scheidt), brother Raymond, sister-in-law Mary Ann, sister Alta Mae Frost, daughter-in-law Theresa (Spetoskey) and companion Ruth Courtney.

Charles is survived by sons Mark (Denise), Charles Jr (Edith) and Gary (Kellie). Grandchildren: Luke (Angela), Josh (Ashley), Brittany (Tony) Potter, Nathan (Katrina), Lindsay and fiancé (Dave Thomasini), Adam, Lacey, Lauren (Josh) Anzell, Step Grandchildren: Kylie (Zach) Wilson, Natalie (Ryan) Urie, Mason Blackmer, Nick (Lauren) Hilley, Jessica (Matt) Cathcart, Kristin (Brian) Satterly and 19 Great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Frank (Bud) Frost and many nieces and nephews.

A small visitation will be held from noon to 1:00 on Monday, October 11 at Koops Funeral Chapel with a private family service to follow. Charles will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery of Lake Odessa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Spectrum Health Hospice or Lakewood Athletic Association.
