She was born in Eunice and she lived in Lake Charles. She was one of the original Rosie Riveters at the New Orleans Shipyard. She retired from Sears as an Assistant Manager of Catalog Sales. She also worked for Trim a Tree by Marie during the holiday seasons. She enjoyed bowling and senior league basketball with her granny basketball team, the Hot Flashes. She was a season ticket holder of the Ice Pirates and Swashbucklers.
She is survived by her son, Michael D. Risher Sr. and wife Marina of Carlyss; daughters, Carolyn D. Risher of Lake Charles, Charlene D. Conner and husband Bobby of Lake Charles, and Cynthia D. Taylor and husband Butch of Lake Charles; nephews, Barry Manuel of Bogalusa, Leonard Manuel of Lake Charles, and William Manuel of Lake Charles; brothers, Leonard Bourgeois of Lake Charles, Paul Janies and wife Novella of Sugarland, TX, Albert Bourgeois and wife Pat of Texas City, TX, Melvin Bourgeois and wife Kimberlee of Oklahoma City, OK, and Martin Bourgeois Jr. and wife Elaine of Port Barre; and sisters, Celina Fontenot and husband Lawrence of Singer and Ruby Cristler of Lawtell; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, W.D. Risher; parents, Martin Bourgeois Sr. and Frances Catherine Janies; brothers, Jessie Bourgeois, Donald Janies, J.B. Bourgeois, Delvis Bourgeois; and sister, Omalee Manuel.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Rev. Ray Hundley will officiate. Burial will be at Prien Cemetery. Her visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 and will resume at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday all at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.
