John Thomas Gilmore

John served in the Navy for 4 years right after graduation from High School. He served on the U.S.S. Princeton during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he made his home in Lake Charles, where he married his wife of 62 years, Velma Breaux Gilmore. He retired from Citgo after 41 years of dedicated employment. John enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a member of University Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking for church events.

John is survived by his loving wife; sons, Charles Gilmore and wife, Aimee, John T. Gilmore ll and wife, Kay, both of Moss Bluff, LA; daughter, Connie Sossamon and husband, Terry of Lake Charles, LA; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Shelby Gene Gilmore and wife, Polly of Lake Charles, LA, Albert Hugh Gilmore and wife, Maude Ann of Plano TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Shelby Gilmore and Aline Frank Gilmore; sister, Sybil Schmutz.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles from the hours of 4-8pm and will resume the following morning at 8am until the time of service. Funeral Services will be at 9:30am on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.
