John Silas Conn, 86 of Lake Charles, Louisiana, formerly of Beaumont, Texas passed away December 24,2020. He was born November 21,1934 in Kirbyville, Tx to Leslie Cornelius Conn and Janice Anderson Conn. At 18, he left Kirbyville to serve in the Army during the Korean War and then the Army Reserves. He graduated from Lamar University with a business degree. He worked in many fields- as a general contractor, safety inspector for FEMA and commercial real estate agent in Beaumont and Lake Charles.
Johnny, or JC as he was called by his grandchildren, was a lover of life and a teller of tall tales. For years he had us convinced that the crab on top of Gaido’s had been caught right on that very beach! He was most happy spending time at his lake house on Toledo Bend Lake, gazing at the water and swapping stories with fishermen passing by. He loved it even more as he watched a generation of children catch perch at the end of the dock. In Lake Charles, he and his wife Sue were active members of the Krewe de la Noblesse, serving in many roles on the board of directors. Together they enjoyed the camaraderie with other members as they met weekly to work on decorations for that year’s theme. It brought him great joy to invite family and friends to the annual formal ball for a great party.
He is survived by his wife Catherine Sue Conn of Lake Charles; his children, Becky Viator and husband Derik of Port Arthur, Johnny Conn and wife Kristi of Jasper, Debra Borchardt and husband Chris of Cortlandt Manor, New York; his grandchildren, Leslie Ruiz, Derik Viator Jr. “DJ”, Shelly Magoulas, and Max Borchardt; and his great grandchildren Avery Ruiz, Lena and Theron Magoulas.
He is also lovingly remembered by Latt Soileau and family of Moss Bluff, Brandi Soileau of New Orleans, and Josh Soileau and family of Rochester, New York. He was preceded in death by his four sisters, Mary Jane O’Dell, Carolyn Conn, Sara Ferguson, and Nina Gordon.
Visitation services will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Thursday, December, 31, 2020 beginning at 12:30pm until the time of services with a rosary to be prayed at 1:00pm in the funeral home on Thursday.
