Julius “Twenty” Carriere died April 11, 2014 in Opelousas, LA after a lengthy illness at the age of 72. Julius was born on May 31, 1941 in Church Point, to the parents of Mentor Carrier Sr. & Alma Lavergne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point, LA Monsignor Jeff DeBlanc will officiate. Entombment will follow at Our Lady of The Sacred Heart Cemetery #2 Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point from noon to 10 p.m. with a Rosary prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday April 13, 2014 Julius acquired the nick name “Twenty” while working at the Church Point Wholesale from which he retired from after 40 years of service.
Julius was a man who enjoyed the simplicities of life, a man of few words, but when he did speak it was usually about his joy for football, geography & history (especially the World Wars). He was a big fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, he always knew the teams schedules and stats. He was a testament to his Cajun Heritage, speaking French and dancing the two-step and waltz to Cajun music every chance he would get.
Julius leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Barbara Matte Carriere of Church Point, four sons and their wives; Darwin & Karen Brasseaux of Lafayette, Byron & Sandy Brasseaux of Church Point, Joey & Dana Brasseaux of Crowley and S.J. “Bubba” & Pam Brasseaux of Lake Charles. Three brothers and their wives; Mentor “Tee Tee” & Shirley Carriere of Church Point, Bob & Hazel Carriere of Opelousas and Raphael Carriere of Lafayette, 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren + 1 on the way.
