Greg was born in Port Arthur, TX on September 22, 1943 to Wilbert F. Palombo and Emetile B. Palombo. He was the fifth of eight siblings. Greg attended Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, Immaculata Minor Seminary in 9th and 10th grade, graduated from Landry Memorial High School in 1962, and attended McNeese State University.
Greg began his career with Cliff Mott Oil Services and then worked as an instrument technician at PPG. Upon his father’s passing in 1971, Greg took over the family roofing and general contracting business, and turned it into a very lucrative company, Palombo & Sons Incorporated, Roofing and General Contracting. His successful business endeavors also included a Ziebart Franchise in Lake Charles. Greg was exceptionally skilled in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and construction. He shared this expertise with his children, grandchildren, and close associates.
He was a devout and loving father of five children who shared his faith, work ethic and sense of humor. Together they explored much of North America on camping, hunting, fishing and scouting adventures. In the early 1990s, Greg moved to Lubbock, TX. He spent his remaining years alongside his dedicated and loving wife, Linda.
At an early age, Greg was called to a life of ministry and service. He was an active parishioner of St. Margaret & Our Lady Queen of Heaven (OLQH) Catholic Churches. He ministered at the Cursillo Adult Christian Faith Formation, and routinely counseled couples. He gave many sermons on spiritual warfare. In 1983, Greg was ordained as a Deacon of the Catholic Church and served his role at OLQH for many years. He often described his spiritual life and service to God as “an incredible journey.”
Greg had many natural talents, including athletic ability, quick wit, and business acumen. Greg was gifted with a beautiful singing voice. He sang in the school and church choirs, and at countless weddings, funerals and local establishments. At one time, he even contemplated pursuing a professional singing career.
Greg had a friendly demeanor that made it easy for people to connect with him. Many will remember Greg for his jovial and playful spirit, his big heart, his knowledge and intellect, and for bringing joy and laughter into the lives of those around him.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Felicia (Faye) Rich, Mary Graham, Catherine (Cathy) MacDonald, Frances (Fran) Stefaniak, his son, Patrick Jesse Palombo and his great grandson, Beckham Palombo.
