Elias “E.J.” Sonnier, 75 passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Hospital. First and foremost he loved his family and grandchildren. He loved fishing, working on lawnmowers, and was a Jack of all trades. If it was broke and it could be fixed, he was the man for the job. He also loved woodworking, and also had been a tree surgeon in the past. He also was retired from the US Postal Service after 37 years. He loved getting together with his postal buddies and have coffee at Stines. He was honorably discharged from the Army and was a big part of helping with the reconstruction in Korea. He graduated from Lacassine High in 1957. He was one of ten children, being number six.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Sonnier, two sons Dennis Sonnier and wife Christine of Lake Arthur, LA., Aaron Sonnier and partner Charles Lambert of Livingston, TX. Also, he is survived by one daughter Dina LeBlanc and husband Jim of New Iberia, LA. He is survived by two brothers Alexon Sonnier, Jr. of Lake Charles and James Wayne Sonnier and wife Lori of Minnesota. Also, he is survived by eleven grandchildren Michael, David, John, Sara, Rebecca, William, Mary, Jerry, Amanda, Abby, and James along with a great grandchild Zoe. Also, Elias is survived by his loving dog, Katy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alexon and Lilda Sonnier, brothers, Ozemia Sonnier, Wesley Sonnier, and Jerry Sonnier, along with sisters Audrey Trahan, Pearl Gary, Ruby Fontenot, and Linda Fruge.
His services will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 2:00pm. Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 4:00-9:00pm and will resume on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 10:00 until the procession to the church. A Rosary will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 6:00pm. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
