She was raised in Plaquemine and lived in New Orleans, Creole, Metairie, and Lake Charles, LA.
Dolores was an accomplished painter schooled in acrylic, oil, watercolor, and china painting. Dolores served on the board for LOPAC, the Louisiana Organization of Porcelain Artists Guild. She was a beloved friend who in addition to painting enjoyed spending time with family, collecting antiques and cookbooks, and traveling. She was associated with People to People; Krewe de la Famille; the Calcasieu Arts & Humanities Council, Southwest Concert Association, the Lake Charles Symphony, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum, LOPAC, the Calcasieu Parish Medical Society Auxiliary where she served as a board member; the Serra Club of the Diocese of Lake Charles, and Dolores was a member and volunteer at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvine and Frederick Thompson, her husband (Stephen Eugene Carter) one son, Eugene, two sisters
(Florence Guidry and Margaret Prejean), and three brothers (Fred Thompson, John Thompson, and Earl Thompson). She is survived by three siblings (Alvine Baye Simoneaux, Sr Mary Elaine Thompson, MSC, and Gerald Thompson; five children Steve (Eve) Carter; daughter-in-law Catherine Carter; Fred (Kristi) Carter; Kathy (Billy) McCalla; Jenny (Grady) Sutton; and Marsha Dibartolo; 17 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Friday, August 18 from 4pm until 7pm. A Rosary will be prayed at 6pm. Visitation will resume at 8:30am on Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10am. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Louis Catholic High School Foundation, Our Lady Queen of Heaven Elementary School, or the charity of your choice. The family is most grateful for the loving care administered to our Mother
